“Everything that can be imagined is real”
Pablo Picasso

I believe in this sentence.

When I read a script I begin to build a world in my head, sometimes I erase some parts, sometimes I don’t. Each word I read, each conversation or request stays with me and builds that imaginary world, an idea that will materialise or become concrete. It is not the snap of Mary Poppins, it is a process that is enjoyed and carefully managed. A world in which the image will mantain a dialogue with whoever observes it, and will transmit many emotions, accompanying the narration. The whole of it creates an unforgettable experience.

There are two things that give me absolut pleasure about my work. Making a director’s dream come true by materialising his idea and watching an actor feel he absolutely belongs in that set. Performance and environment go hand in hand. That’s when I feel that it becomes real, and I choose this profession again and again.

The Art Direction.

Night Sky

The last independent work I directed was for the series NIGHT SKY, from Holden Miller, Daniel Connolly and directed by Philip Martin (The Crown), commissioned by Amazon Studios. My contribution included the art direction in Argentina, under the supervision of Scott Kuzio, who was the production designer of the whole series.

My name is Mercedes Gumbold. I studied Arts at the National School of Art P.Pueyrredón in Argentina and started working on TV at the age of 22 for Telefe, precisely in 1999. when I was 25 years old, I worked in the art direction of LOS SIMULADORES, one of the best shows in Argentina, and from that moment on, I never stopped learning and growing.

Juan José Campanella -Oscar Winner- and Damián Szifrón -Oscar Nominee- are my accomplices. I was from them that I learned not only to work for an idea, as a team, defending the product and seek its perfection, while enjoying the process.

After a lifetime of work on sets and assembly, I took over and dedicated myself to the art department of Telefe Viacom (2013) and was able to make various art designs and concepts for both series and live programs, as well as shows and countless events.

Today I want to dedicate myself exclusively to a product and expand my world, both imaginary and real, opening borders and with much more experience. The last independent work done was for the series NIGHT SKY, By Holden Miller, Daniel Connolly and directed by Philip Martin, The Crown. I did the art direction in Argentina, for Scott Kuzio, his production designer. Always side by side with Juan Campanella, 100 Bares and the most valuable thing, my ART TEAM.
